The police’s work in seizing fake IDs
Sgt. Washington Police Academy College. Jason Whitney said the UWPD needed to have locales set up near bars because they weren’t nearby, but added that whether to confiscate the id card fake and issue a subpoena depends on the discretion of the particular officer.
“On a random night, there could be a large number of students with id card fakes affected,” Whitney said. “We don’t have to push it to the city police department, though.” Whitney said the dorm’s backup liaison Officers tried to teach substitute students the consequences of a fake ID, including $501 for the fake ID.
Joel DeSpain, MPD’s public data officer, said police advised bar owners to confiscate ID cards and, assuming they believed there were many minors nearby, they would check out the bar and issue a fine. While some bars will pay bouncers based on seized fake IDs, there are no legal prerequisites and each bar will do what is best for them, Lyshek said. There’s no question, Lyshek said, that downtown Madison bars are littered with scannable fake IDs, which he acknowledges represents a public safety concern.
“The drinking age of 21 is a huge issue for public safety,” Lyshek said. “For id card fakes, a thriving commercial sector has some advantages, providing more noteworthy comfort to illegal workers and would-be fear traffickers who can rent vehicles and plant a bomb somewhere…. ..it’s more evil than spending time Lyshek, who owns Ram Head in the city centre and Bristly Bore Saloon in Middleton, said lowering the drinking age to 18 could reduce the number of fake IDs on offer.
Still, Lyshek did say that probably won’t happen, adding that the legal drinking age of 19 could be a difference in OK standards. Will business continue?
Until further notice, making a fake id is generally a business and part of life on college campuses across the country.
